AMC International Networks Iberia will launch its first SVOD thematic channel focused on gaming, eSports and heroes in Spain and Portugal in a groundbreaking partnership with many2many programming service Machinima.
AMC International Networks Iberia, which is present in all of Spain and Portugal’s pay platforms, will offer the new channel for pay TV, smart TVs and iOS/Android apps.
“This partnership enables us to offer our clients the opportunity to reach millennials, a community passionate about video games, animation, movies, TV and other forms of pop culture, who will find in this channel their main entertainment source. Machinima is a worldwide gaming authority and we are delighted to add this exciting channel to our portfolio.” Eduardo Zulueta, president of AMC Networks International Iberia and Latin America, said Monday in a statement.
According to Zulueta, a gamers channel fits perfectly into AMC Iberia’s multi-genre bouquet of thematic channels.
“We understand that users of this kind of content are used to consuming it on demand, so an SVOD is more appropriate for this target than lineal television,” Zulueta told The Hollywood Reporter.
Programming will feature Machinima’s most dynamic original productions, including the recent hit series Street Fighter: Resurrection, eSports reality show Training Camp, The Bacca Chronicles from iconic influencer JeromeASF and the upcoming Transformers: The Combiner Wars.
“Heroes, eSports and video gaming are the new pillars of pop culture on a global scale, and Machinima is the most notorious purveyor of this type of content in the world,” said James Glasscock, Machinima senior vp, strategy and business development, “AMC Networks International is the No.1 network group throughout Spain and Portugal, and the combination of our brand and content with their reach is going to be a huge win for millennials in those areas.”
