Tuesday’s verdict in the Casey Anthony trial boosted CNN’s website traffic to more than 30 times higher than its previous month’s average.
During the 2pm-3pm hour when the not guilty verdict was announced, CNN.com registered with 1.9 million users watching its live stream — that’s 30 times higher than the prior four-week average.
The site also recorded approximately 12 million page views, which is four times higher than the prior four-week average.
As of 5 p.m. ET, the verdict is CNN.com’s 10th highest live video stream ever. That number is likely to grow, as final numbers will not be tallied for several more hours.
President Barack Obama‘s Jan. 20, 2009 inauguration is CNN.com’s most watched live stream with 24 million viewers, followed by Michael Jackson‘s memorial on July 7, 2009 with more than 7 million streams, and coverage of Japan’s earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011 with 6 million streams.
Anthony was acquitted of the 2008 murder of her two-year-old daughter Caylee. She was found guilty of providing false information to a law enforcement officer and faces a maximum of years in prison.
Anthony will be sentenced Thursday.
