Vevo has appointed its first chief product officer.
David Rice is joining the New York-based music video streamer from the gaming division of CBS Interactive, where he managed brands including GameSpot and ComicVine. He will be based out of Vevo’s San Francisco office and will report to CEO Rio Caraeff.
“Bringing our first chief product officer on board is an important milestone for Vevo and underscores the company’s commitment to building great viewer-focused entertainment experiences,” Caraeff said. “With David’s leadership, Vevo is well-positioned to grow our product operations as we approach our five-year anniversary later this year.”

In the new role, Rice will oversee product development at Vevo, developing and operating new services to deliver music video programming to Vevo’s audience. Vevo has expanded its programming to include live concert events and original programming, and the products developed under Rice will support those expanding content initiatives.
In addition to his time at CBS Interactive, Rice led media properties at Yahoo and oversaw the relaunch of several products, including its sports, news, finance, homepage and entertainment properties. He also led the launch of Yahoo’s streaming platform, Screen. Prior to his tenure at Yahoo, he led product at Metacafe and Microsoft.
Added Rice, “I am excited about the opportunity to build amazing experiences around some of the most popular music programming on the planet at the scale of the Vevo audience.”
Vevo currently operates a number of television apps — including Apple TV, Fire TV, Chromecast, Roku and Xbox — and the company says viewers spend an average of 133 minutes watching 40 videos on those apps every month. The Vevo app will also become available on the Samsung Gear VR later this year.
